A few months ago I had the opportunity to hike Volcán Barú, located in Panama, and it was an incredible experience, although also very challenging, since I had never climbed that high before or experienced temperatures close to freezing.

The ascent was exhausting, but having trekking poles definitely made the experience easier. It was still difficult, but I honestly can’t imagine having climbed that volcano without them.

However, they were not only useful during the climb, I would say they were even more helpful on the way down, because steep sections can be tough on your knees and ankles, increasing fatigue and the risk of injury.

So if you are interested in hiking activities that involve steep terrain or situations where balance can be difficult to maintain, then you should definitely consider using trekking poles.

If you are interested in getting a pair, one of the best recommendations are TREKOLOGY trekking poles. They are very comfortable and include all the necessary accessories so you can adapt them depending on the type of terrain you plan to go on.

By accessories I mean the different tips and baskets that come included, which help improve grip depending on whether you are walking on dirt, rock, mud, or even snow. It’s important to mention this because climbing on firm ground is not the same as walking on rocks.

The height is also adjustable. When fully extended they reach up to 51” (130 cm), but when fully folded they are only 15” (38 cm), so they work well for teenagers and adults, and they are also compact enough to carry easily on the side of a hiking backpack without taking up much space.

What height are they recommended for?

These TREKOLOGY trekking poles are recommended for people between 159 cm and 195 cm (5'3" to 6'5"), so as mentioned, they are quite versatile for both teenagers and adults.
